Thanks Paula, I don't think we can run to the oak flooring but I'm glad someone else has thought along similar lines - a project for the 'off months' I feel
I will check if we have got any left over Bridgeywidge. I drive down to near Royston most months.
If that isn't too far away for you I could leave enough of it for you to make one (if you wanted me to) with a friend, she has a business and wouldn't mind you picking it up at your leisure.
That is lovely Bridgeywidge, I will ask my husband to make sure there is enough and write back - better you have it than it sits gathering dust together wth all the other left over bits of wood from doing up an old house.
I lived in Barley, Great Chesterford and Arkesden (not at the same time ) for many years and my loveliest friend still lives near Melbourn, hence the drive.
It will be mid October by the time I get down again. Will report back.
My husband is away but is sure that we have got enough Bridgeywidge.
I am almost sure I remember a camping shop opening near the pet shop on the site that I suppose is now the massive Phillimores but I left in 2004 and moved away. Not sure if that is Cross Camping? These days I just go to my friend's house, it is a 180 mile drive each way and I do it in a day.
Back in the day I had a Force 10 ridge tent and a Cabanon canvas affair, both bought as a 21 year old . I used my much loved gear and was not often in the market for new stuff so I am not sure I would have bought much. The two ring burner and grill I bought nearly 30 years ago is still here with a new cable and regulator
My friend only lives a mile from there and I used to ride my horse on that road (was very different then), often buying my veg for the week on the way back from the little farm shop stand that used to be 200 yards down the road .
My horse was tired by then and I used to rest a carrier bag on her withers for the last mile home.
And thanks again Paula - loved all your reminiscences also... it is indeed near Phillimores garden centre. A bit of a drive from here but fun to visit - I try to go once a year to buy a little something... Gary and his tear are always so helpful.
