was looking at purchasing the outwell castor electric tent light, has anyone got one and are they any gd, got a couple of lanterns but dont give enough light to read by in our oasis 6 tent in the evening
I've got what looks like a bulkhead light (made for camping though), not particularly attractive but gives out a good amount of light. Brought from Amazon and i did as reviewers on their website suggested and put in a better bulb. Plenty bright enough to read by and do puzzles on my nintendo DS by.
We have one too. I'm very pleased with it, and like Kampa Wendy use a low energy bulb.
The only downside is that the position of the hanging clip on the cable means that the light hangs quite low, so I loop it up with the bit of cable tie wire that came with the light.
We've got a outwell kuma camping light for our oasis 6.
It comes with a flexible neck so you can direct the light where needed and has a good sturdy clamp so you can fix it on your furniture,we even clamped it to the light hanger in the centre of the living area.
The shade is made of silicone so it won't break and it comes with a long lead with an in line switch.
At night, for the kids,we use a small battery operated led lantern with a built in dimmer switch.
We used a bulkhead light for years: spectacularly ugly, but effective, safe and cheap. With our current TT we inherited an Outwell Merope light, and despite the fact that its glass I'm very taken with it. The lead is really long, it's switched (which the bulkhead isn't), and its a real home from home light. I've since bought an Outwell Vega light to use in the cabin and that's very good as well, so I'd definitely recommend Outwell lights, I'm very impressed with them.
Can anyone tell how far away the inline switch is from the light on the Outwell ones? Can't find the info anywhere. Looking for one for the bell tent and the part to hang it from is really high so want to be able to reach the switch at least - am only 5'2" which doesn't help!

The Outwell castor? Bought one yesterday... don't ask me to critique it, as I haven't got a bulb for it yet! LOL!
From the top of the shade, it's about 9" to the switch. Beyond that*, there's a large plastic slider (akin to one on a guy line) with a Karabiner attached, for hanging.
*The Karabiner can therefore slide along where you want it, but it won't go in that first 9" (between lamp and switch). I guess that means the lamp will always be a minimum of 9" from the hanging point/tent roof?
First impressions are good. Nice long lead (5m) and the light is light... weight-wise, that is! :-) But other than that, I'm still relying on it's good rep... until I get that bulb!

Buy a set of "Remote Control Sockets" and plug it into one of those then you can switch it on and off from anywhere in your tent or outside it then you dont have to worry where the light switch is.

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again

We took the ones of the house and never put them back.
My lights are plastic bulkhead fittings with pipe clips on the back, which clamp nicely to the poles of the tt.
Real bulbs though,I couldn't fit a decent size energy saver in. I lose the remote at least twice every day!
