Hi members,

Well this weekend was the weekend for setting up and trying the newly purchased Outwell Yellowstone Falls. I was on my own this weekend so knew I was in for a slight challenge

I have set up one Outwell tent on my own (Outwell Magic, 4 person) using the method of pegging the four corners and then feeding the middle pole through first, I found this set up process incredibly easy and quick too!! I know the design of the Ambiente collection is different and read some of the feedback from owners on this forum. Still, I turned up to the site ready for action!!

[/IMG]

I have to say, setting this tent up and packing down almost killed me!!! 24hrs later and I'm still feeling completely drained

It is a completely different story setting this tent up. As everybody has mentioned, working the poles through is an absolute nightmare (especailly on your own)!! By the time I'd set the tent up I felt so disappointed at how long and difficult it was. I think it took me over two hours. The Outwell Magic took me 20 mins!!

To make matters even worse, I caught the pole on the inside sleeve

Could anyone offer advice on what to do with this please? Does Outwell offer repair kits for things like this? I also caught it slightly on another sleeve and I certainly don't want to do this again! In the end I had to feed a short length, then go inside the tent and feed that, then back outside...

Despite my brain hurting and feeling dead from head to toe, once up, I loved the tent!! It's lovely and ticks so many boxes- design, floor plan, colour, quality...

Hi Simon,

Well done for having put that tent up single handed, quite an achievement I would say ! It always takes 2 of us an hour to do, so you did amazingly well.

I have no experience of repairing tears, but if it were mine I would be inclined to use some tape over the tear. I assume the tear is in the thin plasticy type pole sleeve material and not the actual cotton itself ?
We always carry duck tape and tenacious tape, but have heard that some people use something called tear aid. Or maybe even hand sew it ?

Hopefully someone else will come along with more experience than me ! Glad you liked the tent even though it is hard work. That was why we bought the bell tent for short stays, although we don't enjoy using the bell half as much as the yellowstone.

Apart from the damage of course, time-wise, that's not as bad as it may seem... for first time... on your own...in my opinion...

I was about the same for my
first pitch of Filey 6 Classic, but we (so much easier with two pitching, of course) have it down to about 30mins all stood and safe, then Muckerette starts kitting out whilst I put the million pegs in!

It does get easier, and it does get quicker. Keep the faith!

The tent did look good when it was up - well worth all the effort and we couldn't hear any swearing as you toiled away LOL! My van behind your tent looks good too!

Afternoon Vicki,

Thank you so much for your reply back in October regarding me pitching my Yellowstone Falls. I haven't logged into the site for a while, but for some reason I did not receive an email to inform me of your message, like I normally do.

I think I've found some black tape from a company called McNett which should do the job and people seem to recommend it, so after Christmas I'll order some.

I've also been on the hunt for a suitable windbreak to match the tent. Have had real difficulty trying to find something.I was really disappointed with the new Outwell range of tents (not that I need one)!! I was hoping they would produce a mocca windscreen to match the new mocca air tent, but sadly no!

Amazingly, I've managed to find one of the Ambiente windscreens, new, near Vienna!! So it matches the tent!

Have you seen the new 2015 collection yet and if so what's your thoughts?

Anyway, thanks again Vicki and hope you have a fab Christmas.

Regards,

Simon

Hi Mucker1884,

Thanks for your message and as I've just mentioned to Vicki, I've only just picked up your message. Love your tent, very similar colours! Don't worry, I will keep the faith! Looking forward (God willing) to some lovely holidays in the new tent for 2015!!

All the best,

Simon

Hi alimilly,

(As mentioned above regarding picking messages up...) Well how about that then!! How are you both? Yes it was a bit of a killer setting this tent up, but I am so, so pleased with it, the quality is lovely! And yes your camper van does look cool!!
Hopefully next time I'll be with others!!

Hope you have a great Christmas and good to meet you both (briefly) back in Sept.

All the best,

Simon

I find it easier to thread all my poles through, while the tent is on the ground first, easier to deal with snags. ring and pin the back pole, stand it up, peg down the back guy ropes, then go from there.

I did your way, the first time, threading the poles through when tent was up, found it a pain in the a***e.

Hi Simon,

You really did quite a search to find a windbreak in Vienna, nice one !
The Mcnett tape is also known as tenacious tape. We carry a roll with us, but thankfully haven't needed to use it, but I would imagine it will do the job just fine.
I haven't looked at the new Outwell tents. I prefer not to unless I am intending to buy. We are camping in Brittany summer 2015 in our yellowstone, so looking forward to that..
Happy Christmas and happy camping 2015 !

My tent is a large 5 man tent with 3 poles. 4.80 in length. I stood the back pole up, then ring and pin the front secured the guy ropes, then did the middle.

Hi FieldyBass

With regards getting the poles in the sleeves "Camping World" recommended wetting the inside of the pole sleeves on the Ambiente tents as this makes the poles slide in easier. My friend Shaun has the bigger Yosemite Falls and uses the top hanging portion of a broom handle on the pole ends to get them in easier and stop them tearing the sleeves. Have put a link in for you to have a look at.
Hope this helps a bit

Good morning arsenaldes,

Thank you for that link that's great. I might try contacting Shaun about this, in regards to how exactly. I bought my tent from Camping World and they mentioned this too, but I found it hard work getting the water to stay in the sleeve! I might have been the way I was setting the tent up though!!

That's a great idea regarding the broom handle!! Need to find a suitable one now!!

All the best,

Simon
