Now that Ive got the DVD thing sorted out, can anyone advise on best sort of bike rack to get?  3 kids bikes and my own, I'm 5'3"" so roof racks probably are out.  SO I am looking at the kind of rack you fix to the tow bar but I need to keep the tow bar for towing the trailer tent too.

Ideally will be easy to get bikes on and off as I have been known to resort to swearing and bad language when wrestling with a pile of tangled bikes.........anyone recommend anything?  Or disrecommend anything?

Thanks M

Hi Magdalena, I believe you can get a cycle rack that fits on the trailer tent. I am sure there is someone on here who knows about them, sounds like the perfect solution. I will see if I can find out anything about them!

We have used Maxrack bike rack for the last couple of years.  Very good if you have a bolt on towball.  Worked well.  You could leave the bikes strapped to rack, lowere it down to get in the boot/tailgate.  You could get four bikes on ours although we only carried 3 to date.  Trouble is it don't fit the quick release tow bar we now have.

Towsure have some, we used the one that bolts behind the towball, you could take it the bike rack part of it off when not in use, just leaving a small bracket there.  We got the extension so we could carry 4 bikes on it too, quite reasonable at the time.

I now use the one that fits on the spare wheel on the back door of my Discovery, beware, having to open door with bikes on to let dog go to the toilet on long trips bends the hinges  but 4 bikes is a handful to take off in motorway service staions, plus the risk of having them nicked whilst beastie is relieving herself .

Thanks for all this, everyone.  I think I might go for the towbar one, Papa Pip, because then I can use it to transport bikes even when not camping........Ange is there any way you can remember which one you ordered at £50, sounds a bargain and the ones I have looked at are much more than that.  Is it easy to get the bikes fastened on to it?

Alternatively Mark, I have a permanent kind of tow bar is that what you mean by bolt on?  I dont suppose you want to sell your old one?

Magdalena

I use a maxxraxx and carry our 4 bikes no problem.  More expensive than the towsure ones, but I believe you get what you pay for and decided that I would rather the bikes stayed on the back of the car if I am doing 70 down the M23 !!
