We were recently on a Caravan Club site surrounded by security fencing, and our neighbours kept going in and out of their van all evening, putting on the alarm each time. The regular pipping did get to me, I admit. In all my 100+ whatever sites in the MH (and many more in a tent), I've never once seen doubtful characters loitering around an empty caravan (in the UK) as the on-site neighbourhood watch always seems to kick in, or the owner's house overlooks the site. I'd say a good set of window and door locks would be enough, an alarm won't stop a smash & grab. Well, it doesn't with a car (been there...) and OH's flat was broken into and cleared out despite a battery operated piercingly loud alarm on the door. But if you're wild camping, or alone on a CS or CL, I guess an alarm would give peace of mind, so you can relax and enjoy your holiday. Most folk seem more worried about the caravan itself being towed away.

I agree entirely, however the original post asked about alarms and in my opinion a cheap £10 ish one is all that most people might need. We seldom set ours but while in storage behind our house we can sleep easily knowing it is alarmed. Also sometimes use it in supermarket car parks etc.
If a deterrent to stealing the whole outfit is needed, the keen alarm operates when one of the corner steadies is raised. I have 2 caravans - 1 for France and 1 for uk and £20 ish is not a big outlay for 2 alarms. I have an alarm in the Summer house as well :0)
