We have a 60 watt solar panel and are considering getting an inverter. To be fair the thing we are likely to use the 240 watt sockets for is the kettle & haidryer. Any one bought the inverter...is it worth it please?

I have a cheapy 150watt inverter, mostly used for powering mains only satellite receivers.

If I was in the market for an inverter I would be looking at the Pure Sine Wave models, and probably around 750 to 1000 watt, so that I could power a domestic fridge if needed.

A kettle will nee a large inverter. They are not very efficient. maybe as low as 60%.

So every 600 watts will need approx 1000 watts from your power source.

For a kettle or hairdryer your probably looking at a 2000watt inverter.

83 amps per 1000 watts. You will need a large battery bank to store enough energy.

A small pure sinewave inverter can be handy for tv's or other small loads. Kettles, hair dryers and other large loads are no good on an inverter unless you're going to spend a few hundred quid upgrading batteries and another few hundred on an inverter.
