Hi All

I have been using airbeds for camping trips, but have got fed up with replacing them after each trip due to deflating, so thought I would give camp beds a try.
Can anyone recommend a comfy camp bed for someone who is 6'5", a lot of them seem to be too short.

Thank you for any advice.

Being more than a foot shorter than you I can't personally recommend anything however would suspect that most fishing beds could accommodate . Failing that some SIMs come up quite long, our Gelert Xped is 198cm long.

Not sure about comfort but the Vango XL campbed looks good and is 210cm long.

I am 6' 4" and have a an Outwell Posados that I find fine, it will depend how you sleep, but Vango, Kampa etc do something similar say for £35 +.

However I only find this type of bed comfortable with a SIM - Self Inflating Mat 7.5 cm + this can add another £25 -75.

As recommmended if can get a fishing bedchair I would find out.

A. can it fit in the car with all the other gear and passengers.
B. can it fit in the tent.

The above recommended can be had much cheaper on ebay on one of the many auctions Cyprinus have say £95 + P&P even the basic ones are more comfortable than regular camp beds they start from £50 .....maybe you would already know this with your user name.

Thank you all for your advice. I will have a look at fishing chairs, the Posados and the Vango, but good point youlbury about whether they will fit in the car, we are already pretty tight for space.

I have not seen SIMs before (fairly new to camping), are they more sturdy than airbeds? Is it an option to just use a SIM without a camp bed?

The user name comes from scuba diving

My most treasured piece of kit is my Exped Downmat 9 LW. It's 197cm long so should accommodate you easily. Not cheap but worth every penny IMO. The Synmat 9 is cheaper and may be a better option if you are not planning to camp in -20 degrees.

If you have a gooutdoors near you, I would look at the fishing bedchairs there and fold them up to see how big they are, you can also check the camp beds whilst you are there.....you don't have to buy off them of course, but that would be the best place to see both set up.

Sims are tougher and warmer than airbeds...I have tried a few, that extra padding will make the difference to your sllep on a camp bed.

If you are planning to buy a Sim to put on the camp bed, I wouldnt throw a lot of money at it, however if you choose to go down the Sim only route I would spend a lot more like Ian has recommended ....but others are available quite a bit cheaper, go for 10 cm depth if you can.

As a large 6'2" man - the Vango XL Camp-bed and 10cm SIM is a great option and longer than I am - The only downsides is that I cannot zip the bedroom pod door closed as its too long and the SIM is large- but oh so comfy.

I too believe fishing beds may be the OP's best bet as I struggled to find a camp bed that is longer than 200cm.

The Outwell Laguna Hills large is 210cm long and pack size considerably smaller than a fishing bed (which look great, if you can transport them).

We've had some for years (went by another name then, but same product) and they're quick and easy enough to put together and put down. We use ours for relaxing outside, and I think you'd need to put a SIM on top to make them comfy enough for sleeping on.

Yes, we use Thermarest SIMS straight on the floor. Most comfy beds ever and no problems with them deflating overnight. You don't need to take campbeds, so long as you have no problems in getting up off a floor-level bed.

Thank you to everyone for your responses.
This is a great forum.
I think I am going to explore the SIM route and see what they are like.
