If you have a gooutdoors near you, I would look at the fishing bedchairs there and fold them up to see how big they are, you can also check the camp beds whilst you are there.....you don't have to buy off them of course, but that would be the best place to see both set up.
Sims are tougher and warmer than airbeds...I have tried a few, that extra padding will make the difference to your sllep on a camp bed.
If you are planning to buy a Sim to put on the camp bed, I wouldnt throw a lot of money at it, however if you choose to go down the Sim only route I would spend a lot more like Ian has recommended ....but others are available quite a bit cheaper, go for 10 cm depth if you can.
