Hello

Just purchased our 2005 Adria altea 502dk van

New to caravans so please could I have some advice

The caravan doesn't have a lesiure battery just gas and direct hookup

So far all the electics work on the van

I think I have worked out the water boiler under the seat needs filling from an aqua roll using the pump then I can use the 230v hot water switch to heat the water this looks like it's only done through electric unless anyone can shed some light on it working with gas as well ?

Right , the Caravan Blown air controlled from the trauma fire works at the 5 speeds but isn't hot air coming from the duct vents just cold , do I need to actually have the fire lite as I'm guessing this is gas fire? Or can it work off electric ? Is it linked to hot water thank in any way?

Any help on this would be great

Cheers

Hi OK we have the Altea 542Uk 2007 so should not be much different.

The Hot water boiler is indeed filled from the aqua roll via the Blue connecting pipe to the van.

It works off 12v which is supplied by the vans consumer unit when connected to the mains 220-240v. Only the mains 220-240 v plug sockets, and possibly the fridge use the mains electricity.

Make sure the drain taps are closed next to the boiler by screwing down the thumb screws. Open all taps ie Kitchen and Bathroom.

If like ours your is fitted with just a gas fire then the gas heating has to be on to supply warm air around the caravan otherwise like you have found just cold air.
Buy an oil filled radiator and use that much easier and cheaper we.

With regards the battery alot of continental vans do use battery hook up just mains. Check under the beds etc, as there maybe a place to hook a battery up ours has, and also used for the mover.

enjoy your van hope this helps.

Now connect the blue pump line first into the full aqua roll then into side of the van (a little water will squirt out) or ensure all taps are off then connect blue line and then open taps. (Mine is only a preference).

You will hear air coming out of the taps when open and then water starts to splutter out close taps once a good stream of water is coming out both on the hot side and cold side of the tap(s). Switch heating supply to boiler on it should take about 1 - 1.5 hrs to heat the water.

Hi,

The waste pipes will exit the van underneath aft of the rear wheel there should be two outlets 1 kitchen sink and 1 bathroom sink..

To be perfectly honest never tried our water boiler with the blown air heating, as never needed to as always on mains hook up. and never really use the gas fire as we have the oil filled radiator on, but should imagine it would take a few hours and use a lot of gas up. Best to have it working on mains really. It will cut in and out and set temp of about 72°C.

When we have used it we have found it works quite well on the auto settings.

again hope this helps.

Some of the Adrias only have gas heating for the Truma fire. If this is the case you can get a electric conversion kit from Truma to fit the electric element in the back of the fire.

You will then be able to use the blown air heating on Gas or Electric. It's probably worth it if you are going to use sites with electric hookup, rather than using your own gas and it saves having oil filled radiators in the van

It's a easy DIY job for anyone competent at DIY.

As Clever says I think there is some confusion on here

Our Altea only has gas fire heating and that has blow air option. Just wait for fire to warm up properly and set blown air on low to circulate.
Insulating the pipe that go under the van outside will help get van to bathroom say if at the back

The water heater is gas or electric on ours but has no impact on any heating or blow air

As for whther its worth getting the electric element kit for the Truma fire, well maybe if you can fiot it yourself and pick up one ata good price but the kit itself I think is around £170 - £180 without fitting.

That pays for a lot of gas for when we do use the fire and for us would take years an years to get back

Exactly that why we have never looked to have the gas fire converted to use electric although you can every now and then pickup a complete unit of ebay for not much money.. Thats why we have an oil filled radiator that fits snugly between the bunk beds and rear dinette and warms the van in a matter of minutes.

Its also ideal for drying towels on after showers.

Cannot think of the last time i used the gas fire, although in summer the blower is on the blow/circulate cool air around the van.

Off to the cotswolds in two weeks so the radiator will be getting its work out.

As sunshinetours said the price of the kit would pay for a lot of gas, but for us it's also the convenience.

We only carry one bottle of gas and that lasts us a couple of years. If we didn't have the electric element I would probably have to carry 2 bottles in case we ran out in the night. That would then cause us problems with the nose weight.

Also depends how much you intend to use the van in winter.

Fairly sure we paid around £150 for the kit.
