Hi.Im looking to buy a 3 season sleeping bag.My problem is,im quite a big guy (6''3, 24stone) so anything i do buy has to be on the large side but before having to buy a double. Can anyone suggest a sleeping bag that would suit me? Thanks
Thanks for the advice.Im not a mummy bag fan,my legs pretty much dance when i sleep so need abit of leg room. ive been looking at 2 bags, vango's serenity grande and Skandika's Vegas XXL Sleeping Pod Bag (its mummy-esque) but is 110cm width at the top! anyone familiar with these?
Used to zip together 2 rectangular Vango downie bags. Now I use a duvet cover as a bag liner (entering at the foot end, obviously) and put a duvet from home on top. You don't say if space is an issue, and this option is bulkier than a bag that gets rolled up. If you get a sleeping bag, a cotton liner is still a good idea - you just wash the liner after you've been away as washing & drying a sleeping bag is a real hassle. And you can use the liner on its own in hot summers.
I have the Dormir Grande and it is very comfortable, I am 6'4" and very broad across the shoulders and I have plenty of room....downside to big sleeping bags= Big pack size, particuarly the Vango.
------------- It's better to ask a silly question than make a silly mistake.
We have just changed from sleeping bags to duvets, I have sewn ties on the inside of the double duvet cover and on the corners of the duvet to stop them moving about then put a SIM inside the duvet cover under the duvet, fold over and excess duvet (approx. 130cm) overlaps the SIM and tucks under working similar to the much more expensive 'Duvalay' . We also purchased some 40l dry bags to transport the duvets in.
Whilst we have had to purchase a few extra double duvets & covers if you have one at home its a no cost option to try. We bought a few 13.5 tog for winter and have a few throws & fleeces if needed then bought a couple of 4.5 tog for summer use and obviously have the option of using both the 13.5 tog and the 4.5 tog together if we really wanted. I have tried it at home on top of a camp bed using a 4.5 tog and was as comfortable as in my own bed.
For someone over 6ft I would probably add some way of closing the bottom, buttons or zip would work. If sewing isn't your thing a fleece blanket tucked over the foot of the bed should do the job or you could use a king or super king size duvet & cover which are both longer and wider.
we each have a Coleman Big Basin as we needed to upgrade our sleeping bags and wanted something warm and roomy...i'm a sleep wriggler so even tho i'm only 5 foot 6, and these bags are designed to fit people who are over 6 feet tall, i love my Big Basin...it's so huge i can get lost in it for days...
