Speaking as someone with an alarming propensity to jump up off the couch and potter off to the shed, thinking that I can save a lot of money with 10 minutes of DIY and available materials, only to find 3 hours and 2 trips to B&Q later that perhaps 30 seconds online and £15 might have been the more sensible option, I appreciate both BoB's ingenuity and NickH's scepticism.
Apologies for the really long sentence.
There speaks a man in a hurry and a non diy'r. B&Q is not the place to go, 3 times the price of a proper ironmongers or builders merchants

It is a fool who has to say something.

Apart from the B&Q bit, I'm with you all the way there .
Some time back I made choke/starter out of a piece of S/S flue section and some heavy gauge mesh(...I had the bits..and I had the time to faff...)
But I now see that they are available online for around a tenner..delivered! .

I was halfway through a 69 word sentence. Two letters and an ampersand, a moment of madness I know, but for the sake of brevity I think it got the gist of the problem across.

I have a large chimney starter (not a weber one) but I've just purchased the small Weber one to use with my Weber go anywhere BBQ. Cost me £11 and I must say some things are priced up for the brand name but Weber gear is in my opinion quality long lasting stuff and therefore worth the money. Better than faffing about with old bean cans. But each to there own eh
