I was referring to using the deflector plate and putting the food on the chrome plated metal grid to cook.
It took ages to get a hint of colour on full heat. And the deflector plate was a nightmere to clean afterwards.
The first time we used the BBQ bit (deflector plate and wire grid) we found it took a while for our sausages and burgers to cook. Since then we've put the lid on it and it's much better.
And I agree that the deflector plate is a pain to clean. So far we've got away with it as we've only used it for weekends away, so take it home to clean. However, on a longer holiday where we need to wash up on site it may be a problem as some sites don't have hot enough water to get it clean. That said, the Cadac is by far one of the best things I've bought. It's so versatile, you can cook almost anything on it and it's so nice to be able to cook al fresco instead of in the van. We just got fed up with disposable BBQs as they're not as good as they used to be, so replaced them with a bucket BBQ and that failed miserably too as the coals at the bottom just didn't get hot enough. So we tried a Cadac and have never looked back. I know some people say it's not a proper BBQ but we've found you still get the BBQ taste.
