NickH,

I was referring to using the deflector plate and putting the food on the chrome plated metal grid to cook.

It took ages to get a hint of colour on full heat. And the deflector plate was a nightmere to clean afterwards.

The first time we used the BBQ bit (deflector plate and wire grid) we found it took a while for our sausages and burgers to cook.  Since then we've put the lid on it and it's much better.

And I agree that the deflector plate is a pain to clean.  So far we've got away with it as we've only used it for weekends away, so take it home to clean.  However, on a longer holiday where we need to wash up on site it may be a problem as some sites don't have hot enough water to get it clean.

That said, the Cadac is by far one of the best things I've bought.  It's so versatile, you can cook almost anything on it and it's so nice to be able to cook al fresco instead of in the van.  We just got fed up with disposable BBQs as they're not as good as they used to be, so replaced them with a bucket BBQ and that failed miserably too as the coals at the bottom just didn't get hot enough.  So we tried a Cadac and have never looked back.  I know some people say it's not a proper BBQ but we've found you still get the BBQ taste.

When using the Cadac we always use a silicone sheet on the griddle which saves any messy cleaning. The sheets last for years and can be washed in soapy water or even put in the washing machine when you get home.

I bought my Cadac of this guy cadac ebay
who was very helpful and seemed to know a thing or two about them    They advised me the roaster was a waste of time and perhaps easier to buy a ready cooked chicken.   I have since met someone who had bought one and also said it was slow and agreed it may have been easier to buy a ready cooked chicken or at the least chicken pieces and cook them on the grid plate.

Just Google reuseable teflon sheet Paul they are on Amazon for around a fiver   The newer BBQ with the big chef pan doesn't really need them if you dont over cook on to0 high it just wipes off the chef pan

Hi Paul

I got mine on eBay searching on non stick oven liners. I originally bought it on a roll but can't see them any more.
These save hours of unpleasant work !!

I have been looking at getting a cadac for the last few weeks but I am not keen on the latest ones, has anyone tried out the latest 2015 range? It seems the Carri Chef no longer has a double sided griddle / hot plate, instead it has the bbq grill / griddle as one with a separate hot plate.

I am keen to see what people’s opinions are of the new style as I had liked the idea of a separate griddle and bbq grill, there are a few of the older style floating around on ebay but with the reports I have seen on the quality of the Teflon coating I am wondering if I should stick with buying new to get a warranty.

We like ours but to be honest the bbq part is of little use. If you cook a lot of food with fat in it like burgers and sausages the fat tray underneath nearly always catches fire.

I thought it was me until speaking with other campers with one and everyone I've spoken with has experienced the same.

We've just changed to an electric fry pan. If we can only use the griddle then may as well use electric and save the cost of gas.
