hi, i'm new to camping. just bought a gelert 4 pole windbreaker. can't work out how to do the guy ropes. there are some ropes with an attachment which aren't very long, then just loose, short pieces of rope.i don't know anything at all about guy ropes, (no instructions with it) dreading the tent next! can anyone advise me please.
On my windbreak I place the guys over the end of the poles (2 on each pole) and then peg them out in an inverted V shape, so they splay out either side of the pole. Does that make sense?
yes, thnks. that makes sense, would make it secure, but what i can't understand is how to put the guy ropes together, they just don't look long enough. some have like toggle on them and are very short. then other very short ropes with nothing on them. am i meant to to tie them together somehow? the instructions are pretty useless, doesn't show anything on how to actually put the the guy ropes together.
Yeah, all the same length but very short. Certainly won't reach the ground.and can't understand why some have like a toggle on and others just bits of rope. Never dealt with guy ropes before.
Was it a new one? or if bought from someone, sounds like wrong guy ropes, or course they should be long enough to peg out, They're not very expensive , so could buy some more and happy camping
The guy ropes should be more than long enough to reach the ground because they double back on themselves, being tightened by the toggle or slider.
One end of the windbreak pole will no doubt have a plastic or rubber cap and the other end has a spike. Contrary to what one might imagine the spike is not for sticking in the ground but should be at the top of the windbreak. A loop is formed in the guy rope and looped over the spike. The plastic or rubber end of the windbreak pole sits on the ground.
