I have thule aero bars from 2006 that fit my c4 grand Picasso iirc they can take 100kg looking for a 470 to 530 litre roofbox but few have them on display what's the biggest it'll take

The bars maybe rated at 100kg but i dont think the roof is. Pretty sure its a max of 80kg on those.

Possibly less if you dont have the rails fitted.

Thats a lot of weight to put on the roof of a fairly tall vehicle also.

Also check the load capacity rating of the roofbox
We have a Thule Atlantis 100 I think it's a 400 or so ltr roofbox but weight limit is 75kg and that's if it's loaded evenly

Dont forget the loadinf limit for the roof also includes the weight of the bars and the box etc.

My c4 has the roof rails I am aware of the roof limit and that it includes bars and actual weight of box and limit hoping to put the lighter bulkier stuff in box thinking may be better to go with box that opens both sides as I think it will be difficult getting the u bolts done on far side of this box. How are abs boxes for waterproofness the folding ranger one we currently have is live a sieve

I have had a Farad double side opening one for a number of years now and it makes loading and connecting much much easier. Have used roofbox.co.uk a few times and great service but they don't stock Farad any more but worth a look (mention UKCS and you get a discount on full priced stuff)

As you say they are ideal for bulkier lighterweight stuff on roof like duvets/sleeping bags, pillows, beach towels/windbreaks etc etc

I wouldn't bother with Thule and other top brands as quality is no better and they are priced accordingly to their perceived brand.

i would always wrap anything like duvets etc inside big black bags if in a roof biox anyway to stop dirt and any possible wetness but have never had our leak

We have the square style Halfords one and towed in the rain many times, Never had any issues with water getting into it.

All our stuff is bagged up in there anyway. If your putting bedding or clothes then i would add an extra layer of protection.

We use the biggest one i could find, which is from halfords, it fits fine on my car, and as long as you dont overload it.

That's the make I'm looking at on amazon seems good value and will leave me around 50 kg to play with

No complaints on ours as I say. Been stored outside as well much of the time and still looks pretty good
