The hitch is secure for towing. You may want to fit a hitch lock for security en route to stop trailer getting nicked while you are parked at motorway services etc. You can leave hitchlock on while towing but there is no need to. Hitch will not detach. Lift handle, drop onto ball, handle will click shut & has a safety catch. You can visually check to see hitch seated onto ball.
For safe load distribution, place heavy items like gas bottle over or in front of axle so weight bias is to front of trailer.
