Hiya all, not posted in a long long time but the time has come to get prepping for the next couple of trips. We have always bought the basic bits to get us by and this year have decided to get more "long lasting" bits. We have been looking at the new coleman fyrechampion double stove, looks very very nice with 2 griddle pan bits too and the advantage of not needing a huge gas bottle. Anyone got one or seen them in the flesh yet? love to hear your thoughts on it compared to the similar campingaz versions etc.

Coleman fyrechampion

Now I think its time to invest in some form of heating for our huge 8 man tent and better lighting as the LED string lights I have just don't cut it over a late night game of monopoly. Im also after a better coolbox but I just cant decide on one. I just cant get on with the ecocool outwell one I have, it doesn't seem to do the job very well.

Any suggestions for the above would be great, im sick of buying something new only to discover it isn't good enough.

Invest wisely for the long term, as well as the idea of looking after it and maybe selling on.
Quality gear will always get you something back when you have finished if it is in good condition
We bought Dometic 2200, 3 way fridge - excellent piece of kit.
Kampa Roastmster stove. We use a painters trestle from B&Q to support it.
Great set up.
Often wonder if I had to replace the lot what I would buy.

The coolbox you have is a peltier cooler so only cools about 18deg below ambient if you are lucky. I would only use it as a drinks cooler, not for keeping stuff like meat. They work reasonably well in UK type summer weather provided you load in the drinks the night before & don't add any during the next day.

As pointed out a proper fridge is much better.Cheapest if you are on ehu the whole time is a small domestic fridge about £70 from Argos. A 'proper' camping fridge costs much more.

Reading the below ambient info is crucial. It can make a huge difference even in the UK when it's high 20's lot low 30's outside and the cool box or cheap fridge is struggling.

Even 3 way fridges struggle in the warmth of a tent and ideally need to be level I'm my parents folding camper we put it under the bed end sonic gets cool air from under the unit

The igloo brand thermo cooler they have freezes milk in the middle of summer if your not careful that said the peltier unit on it is huge compared to some cool boxes I've seen

Never had a problem with any of my 3 way fridges in a tent in the UK with putting meat, drinks or anything else in for that matter, other than salad which tends to freeze as it keeps them well below what a domestic (4ºC) fridge does.

The 2200 is 30ºC below ambient so unless you are going to anywhere where it's above 35ºC you'll be fine.

As for the cooker sorry I haven't seen this one as my dad bought me the Camping Gaz one for Christmas so I can cut down on the camping stands I take

My 3way fridge is fab. No problems in the burning heat of southern France on ehu, and ridiculously cold on gas! Can normally make ice and is too cold for salad goods.
