Hello to you all
We have been camping for a lot of years now, However we always end up buying at least a couple of air beds per year........Do you own a air bed, if so what type // kind // does it always stay up.// Or do you use something else,
Used a big aerobed in the past. It's a home one that has a mains pump which I used an inverter to power. Very solid and comfy. Warm with a old sleeping bag opened up and used as a topper.
But recently bought a bell tent and as a way of getting more out-of-the-way storage we've bought camp beds (can get stuff under them). I've got SIMs on top. I've tested them and IMO not as comfy ad the aerobed but acceptable.
The main issue with camp beds is width I think. You can't just roll to the side but gave to shift and roll on the spot. I got the Kampala XL pond which are wider and better for a big guy.
I switched to camp bed + self inflating mattress (SIM) after my trusted double airbed developed a leak mid trip while camping over Christmas in 2011.
Luckily, I was only a few miles from home, so I went back and got the single airbed out in order to continue with the trip.
However, I did not wish to be without a bed in the middle of nowhere. Hence I got the camp bed + SIM combination.

From what I have read on here airbeds are very fickle and temperamental about staying up...Prone to developing a leak and full of cold air!!!
I used to use them years ago for the kids when they were small....And experienced some of the above problems...
I bought one for small tent backpacking trips and found that even with insulation beneath and a cover on top I was still cold in bed...
I now use a SIM (Self inflating mat) with insulation and a small G/sheet underneath and that method feels a bit more comfy to me and smaller to pack...
For my big camps with transport etc...I use a fisherman's carp bed....Big and bulky to transport but so comfy combined with a four season S/bag....Six adjustable legs mean I can sleep level on any sort of ground....And can adjust the head height too which is important to me as I like a high pillow...
Folding/take apart campbeds with SIM on top sound really good to me also....But I reckon you would have to position them carefully to achieve a perfect sleeping position....Plus I would need about 3 pillows for a perfect head height...

Thank you everyone......I think we may get a couple of folding camp beds from now on.......Or maybe try the carp fisher man camp bed they look really comfy.
My friend's got a carp fisherman's bed and loves it.
We've got a Coleman comfort airbed for when we're family camping in the tent and I use a camp bed with an old roll mat for Cub/Beaver camps. Failing that we roll out the rock'n'roll bed in the VW T25 van and sleep on that if its just for the odd night or two.
I have just purchased a Coleman Durarest raised double. Apparently it is 47% more puncture resistant and 25% stronger. I will confirm back if 53% of me ends up on the floor
