Try rubbing the carpet with your foot clad in a croc or similar rubbery soled shoe. I bought a rubber broom from Lakeland See here which is great too. Febreeze for the smell, or if you really want to wash it again use a small amount of carpet shampoo in a bucket of water, work it in with the rubber broom (get rid of the hair first!), then hose off and hang on the line to dry.

Yes, rubber works well, I use a rubber type 'curry comb' on my hands and knees when our dog is melting! Gut said 'curry comb' from Go Outdoors or anywhere that sell horse grooming equipment.
