We will be travelling up to Shropshire (just outside Shrewsbury) for a funeral just after the May Bank Holiday, and my question is - are there any camping shops with decent tent displays?
We will be driving up from Cornwall, so anywhere on the M5 Corridor really. I've got the details for the Yeomans Outdoors Wolverhampton branch, but if anyone has any other suggestions I'll be sure to visit! There aren't many tents on display in Cornwall, and I want to make the most of the trip up country, albeit in rather sad circumstances.
We are hoping to have a look at the Outwell Classic or possibly Smart Air collections, so if any of you know where there are any on display I'd be grateful.
If you make it to Yeomans and are considering inflatable tents take a look at the Gelert O.M.E.G.A ones. We bought the Omega 6 one last year and love it. It was about half the price of the inflatable ones in Go Outdoors.
Winfields (formerly Barratts of Feckenham) usually have an excellent display out but might be worth a call first; see Winfields store list. They're a little further away than suggested, Feckenham is about 8m from M5 J5 but a nice detour.
Webbs currently don't have a camping display, but you don't actually pass them anyway.
Another vote for Attwools which is well worth the visit, as previously mentioned.
Finally, there's AtoZ Camping (also known as Tent Hire) that are not far off the M6 near Walsall. They are a bit limited in showroom, (bit of an Alladins Cave) but maybe worth a call if you know what you want as they are competitively priced.
Another Attwools fan. They should be your port of call. The inside and outside tent displays are fantastic. Such a huge range on offer. Vango is the main tent of choice here, and so they should be, as they were the first with the AIR BEAM tents, and have made those for years. On the back of that, they introduced AIR BEAM drive away awnings for motorhomes. Simply the best tents in ease of errection, height and space within....you will need to look at the differences...and this should be your stop on the way home. Max 1 1/2 miles from junction 13. Make friends and pull a great deal. We did. A big company, owned by a family, and the staff are so helpfull.
Will definitely be checking them out, and I dare say that the 5 1/2 hour journey will probably turn into a 12 - 14 hour one.... Just have to let DH know that it will just be a couple and not for long either.... But we will be going up in an empty estate car dying to be filled for the journey home!
