A site we will be staying at in our caravan has cold water taps at each pitch. Is there a way to connect directly from tap to caravan rather than pump it from the barrel?
Whale and Carver both make mains water connectors, you can also buy (or make) a float system which connects the mains to top up your water barrel, and you use the normal 12V pump to your taps!
the proper mains feed conectors have a pressure dropper in them, and are perfectly fine to use, but a home made one? no chance, other than that just get a long enough hose from the tap to the caravan, actually one of those new strechy ones would be ideal for the job and just refill your water barrel as and when needed

Only if no one can 'see' where it goes kazo....
BUT....
If the OP is asking to connect the mains feed DIRECT to the van's system...
Don't!!!
The caravan plumbing is NOT meant for mains pressure water.
You'll blow a joint somewhere and before you know it, have a flooded / ruined van...
Best stick to the 'float in the barrel' way.
Nothing wrong with direct feed if you use the correct equipment, we use it all the time when available. The hose has a pressure reducer, it does not get any pressure straight from the tap.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
