Hi all,

A little while ago there was a discussion on here about dog stakes and lots of people were recommending the delta dog tether from big dog world. I thought it looked really good so ordered one, but when I tried it out in the garden ahead of this weekend's camping trip, my puppy pulled it out the ground within about 20 seconds.

For those of you who have one, please can you tell me what dog you have, how you secure it etc? There are reviews on their site saying that it withstood a newfoundland, so I'm sure I must have set it up wrong for my dog to pull it out so easily!

I am amazed. My dog, who pulls like mad when she's excited, has never managed to budge ours. We peg it on all sides with the pegs hooked over the edge and slanted down to the middle. (Hope that makes sense). I hope there is someone who is better at technical stuff than I am who can help.

Same as Fiona above - two Jack Russells who pull like mad when excited, I peg the Delta with three pegs as above (just like pegging down a guy line) and the Delta never budges. If all the pegs are at an angle slanting towards the middle any force in any direction should be counteracted by the pegs on the other sides, keeping the Delta securely on the ground.

Thanks for the replies. I emailed Bid Dog World and they said the same thing about making sure the pegs are all angled inwards. My pup is a bit bigger than a Jack Russell (40kg 8 month old bullmastiff!) but the design is aimed specifically at large and giant breeds so that shouldn't matter. I should say that he was very clever - instead of pulling with his neck, he put his mouth around the karabiner on the tether and pulled it out that way!

My first Lakeland was so smart he could open doors and even pushed the recycling box over to the side gate and climb on it, so he could jump over the gate.

Even he never managed to dislodge the Delta tether.

our 35kg lab/staffy cross has never pulled our delta out pegs hooked over the side and driven all the way in. Deltas own stainless pegs have quite long hooks on them too, which probably helps too.

We have a 27 kg lab, who previously had successfully snapped and bent the traditional corkscrew dog restraint! But this tether definately has her beaten.

2 x Labs - total weight in excess of 50kg - never budged - check the pegs are angled and I guess that the ground is flat you're pegging it in to!!

We've never used a dog tether we just knock a heavy duty green topped awning peg through the double chain which we fasten together at the end where it gets pegged out and with an excitable heavy pulling basset griffon on either chain have never even looked like shifting it.

Be careful if using one of these on a CC site. I had put mine in the grass adjacent to the caravan hard standing. When we came back for a trip out I found that it had been pulled out and the warden then appeared and told me off for nearly ruining his grass mower! I didn't realise that these are difficult to spot and should not be fixed on grass areas that may be cut. They should be pegged into the hard standing area.
