We bought a crappy old caravan for £300. It's been put into storage and cleaned and we are finally going to take it for one night to a nice site near where we live. We figure one night, close to home is a good idea for the first outing.
But, I'm not sure what we will need. I mean, I know we'll need basic dishes and stuff. But I am not sure about electrics. We have an EHU cord - orange thing - that we bought a few years back and have never used. We bought it when we were still camping in tents. Is there only one sort of EHU cord plug thingy or do we need to have a specific kind?
And what sort of electrics can we run off of it? Does one need to buy special kettles or anything?
We're not going to use the shower and we have a basic camping potty from when we tent camped. I think they threw in an aqua roll, though - I wouldn't mind being able to run the sink to rinse dishes but I'm not sure about that, even. The site has a nice pot wash facility and great showers and I'm really not bothered.
There's a Calor tank that is full so the fridge and I think the heat will run off off that if we don't use electric. I suppose we technically have all we need to be at least as comfy as we ever were in a tent.
If you were in a tent then the oranhe lead should have had a round plug on one end and a circuot breaker on the other with standard household style sockets.
For a caravan you need round plug/socket on the cable with no breaker. The van should have a breaker.
You will be limited to whatever the site allow, this can be between 6amp and 13amp.
between 1300watts and 3000 watts. This is the combined figure that you need to share between all appliances, Fridge, waterheater, tv, etc etc.
A 3000watt household heater or kettle is likely to trip your electrics and possibly even the shared bollard that supplies your pitch and several others.
If your paying for the electric hookup then you wont want to run the fridge off gas.
