used a foam roll mat with a 3 season mummy bag at the weekend and was nice and warm, some of you dont like the idea of the mummy bags true they are not the most spacious (I'm over 6' and a tad too fat) but they do keep you nice and warm. had a fleecy blanket but it kept falling off. Wrapped up well though with thick socks, tracksuit bottoms and a long sleeved shirt. That IMO is they key good warm clothing

Yet to try out our insulation kit, but I bought one of those synthetic fur rugs to cover the whole floor of a 4 berth pod, air bed with fleece matress cover on, double sleeping bag & 15tog duvet. Am I going a bit over the top?

Last August bh it was freezing where we were staying. I put our old double sleeping bag on top of air bed, then a double fitted sheet and then our 13.5 duvet.  It was so toasty warm that I took of my hat (very attractive)and pj bottoms and just slept in a tshirt. Even the dog got hot too.

When we camped a couple of weeks ago, we had our double air bed, with a fleece blanket on top, then me in my new Vango Astral 350 Super and a fleece blanket over me. I also had on a pair of pj bottoms and a t shirt with a wooly hat on. I lost the wooly hat half way through the night but was sooooooooooo warm.

I want to know how big a car everyone has to get all this bedding and nightclothes in! Can you actually see out of the windows . A Thermarest, pillow, a good sleeping bag with liner and a just a pair of lightweight pj's do me whatever the time of year. We try to travel as light as possible, and the car is still well packed with gear - so where do you put it all?!

I don't know about the others Liz, but we only have a KA. Just take lots of fleece blankets in a compression sack.

I can get everything in our car and Matt can still see out of the back window, just takes planning.

most of my gear apart from tent, cooking gear and furniture fits into a 45 litre rucksack just get the sleeping bag well compressed and only carry the essentials, leaves plenty of space in the car for the ale

Hi

Going to buy diablo 900 this weekend!  Looking forward to test trip soon, was having nighmares about how to fit it in the car.  Even bigger nightmares now, I thought sleeping bags and blow up beds would do us all but I dread being cold.  WHere will it all go?

Much the same here, although I dont bother with the liner, no need.

I rarely take a pillow even, just use a fleece, or at take an empty pillow case and stuff it with some of your clothes.

It continues to amaze me the amount of gear people take and think they need to stay warm, when all it takes is the right sleeping bag and a mat to sleep on, thats it.

This is where i am grateful that I have an (ancient) Escort estate car.

No seriously I have commented earlier on this thread, to my mind there is nothing worse than not sleeping all night because you are frozen. We did NOT do well on our last trip, and as a result I am perhaps going a bit over the top this time. I see no reason to freeze when there's room in the car for an extra blanket! We have a standard airbed with a foam roll underneath and a fleece on top, sleeping bag then another blanket. Hopefully this time we will stay warm!

(I blame the useless mummy bags we had, tbh - I was SO uncomfortable as well, and couldn't snuggle up and get warm enough to go to sleep - cue one miserable night. Never been so glad to see dawn breaking)

To be honest I only use the liner to keep my sleeping bag clean, it's plenty warm enough without. I got in it my bag at Easter on the chilliest night and had to unzip at 4am - I was boiling. Used it like a duvet the rest of the time - feet in the end and very cosy.

We put the pillows in a stuff sack, so they don't take up much room when packed.
