We had one of these years ago for our daughter who is 12 now.
The lead is broke so hoping to see if that can be replaced however having had a look at the modern ones I have notice the screens are bigger and accept pen drives .... Our 4 year old little man now requiring one for distance travel in the car ..... Are there any good ones that you recommend.
Thank you 👍
If you are wanting one that accepts a pendrive or memory card, purely for films i would steer you away from a dvd specific player and recommend you buy a tablet instead.
For some reasonable outlay you can get something like the Tesco Hudl 8" screen and will accept a memory card upto 48gb for £99
This will allow you to store numerous films and still function as a multimedia tablet whilst on the camp site (apps/games etc) and if you have wifi, will allow internet access.
also as an added bonus you dont need to attach it to the back of the head rest and is fully portable.
I've been down a similar road i.e used to use portable DVD for our elder kids, but now don't with the youngest.
We now use an old laptop which has lots of films loaded, so as with a tablet, no need to take bulk of DVDs, and easier to change films on the move if needed. Nice big screen. Bigger choice of films available to our little one, as we used to limit the number of DVDs taken. Laptop runs from 12v power supply in the car or its battery.

I would second the Hudl 2 recommendation.
We have one for my daughter who is 3 (almost 4) and she uses it in the car to play games or mounted in a headrest tablet holder to watch movies.
Much more versatile and future proof in my opinion.

Stupid question alert. We are steering towards a hudl for our 2. When you say you gave films loaded or on a drive... can u download your own dvds or do you need to buy them from itunes or the like?

There's probably not a simple answer to that question if you have had to ask (please don't take that the wrong way). I would say it's simplicity can depend on your stance towards copyright infringement!
There are certainly ways you could legally copy & convert DVD's you own and add them to the Hudl 2, with loads of information online regarding those topics.
Something to note is that a lot of newer DVD's now come with what's called a "Digital Copy" (example), so when you purchase the DVD you can then download a digital version of the show/movie which could then be added to the Hudl.

I don't think you will be disappointed with the Hudl 2. The screen is especially crisp and clear for the money. The official rubberised bumper cases for £5-£10 and screen protectors are also worthwhile when the device is used by a small child.
One thing you could get if you don't use EHU when camping is a portable power pack. You can pick a decent Anker brand 16000mah battery from Amazon for about £20 and it will charge the Hudl fully 3 or 4 times, although we find the battery on the Hudl last for at least two 2 hour movies on almost full screen brightness.

another vote for Hudle and Anker but get one that will charge from the car.
I bought a dearer one £50 but i can run an LED light strip (£3.50 ebay)and tablet. Also charge phones and kindle. Brilliant bit of kit. It will then charge from the car the next morning
In the back of the car, whilst going on a long trip, these devices get a dogs life, and end up on the floor, stood on, drink, food etc on them.
We got a cheap and cheerful DVD player that my sister had.
It owes nobody nothing and if it gets knackered I can replace it with another from any of the major supermarkets, whilst on the road.
I would buy cheap and worry less about what is happening to it.
