After having just upgraded to an electric dual hob and had its first test run this week, I was so disappointed. Cooks food great, but waiting 20mins to boil a full kettle I can not do when I have 6 hot water bottles to fill!
And I don't want an electric kettle as with all the other electrical items I have it will put too much strain being used in conjunction with the electric hob on the total amps being used at one time
So back to gas, I don't want to go back to my dual hob gas stove with separate gas bottle due to room in car.
I was thinking of buying two of the single gas hobs from Halfords that seem to have good reviews;

However, I seem to remember some awful story about a family having one blow up in their faces at a park a while ago. I wouldn't be cooking inside the main tent, but within an open porch with plenty of ventilation.
Please could anyone advise? Thanks in advance

I could be wrong and I've no proof to back me up but the suitcase stoves output power isn't as good as a regular gas stove and may not be any better than your electric double hob. We only use our suitcase stove for picnics and I only fill the kettle with enough water for 2 mugs of coffee and another cup for rinsing out with when done and find myself watching the kettle for many minutes (although never timed it), could just be the old 'a watched kettle never boils' thing?

Re: Electric kettle..

Sorry but why would you still have the double hob on, at the same time as you'd be boiling the kettle for 6 hot water bottles?(which would presumably be at bedtime?)

Besides those hobs hold the heat very well, so even if you were still cooking something, switching it off for a few mins will have very little effect..

(We used an electric hob for a while but I would never have dreamt of using it to boil water on).

The "suitcase" / Bistro stoves are good but the canisters can soon lose their "umph", and can then take a while to boil a kettle(.at which point, we relegate that canister to frying duties..)

The danger with suitcase stoves as you mention are if using a very large pan that overhangs stove. It will be ok with a kettle. For boiling a kettle a 2 burner stove with separate gas bottle always seems to boil a kettle quicker than small single burner cartridge stove.

However..Do you have a Campingaz 907 bottle? If you do, or want to get one then your solution might be one of these that screws direct into bottle.

sorry forgot to add if filling hot water bottles the water shouldn't be just off the boil, filling at the hot tap in the facilities and maybe topping up with some boiled water would not only be quicker but safer too.
