Hello all

Any creative tips on inflating new SIMs?

We bought two 10cm Outwell Dreamcatchers last week. One has inflated fine but the other will not go thicker than about 4-5cm.

We have tried blowing into it - the air just comes straight back out. We have also tried closing the valves and rolling it so the air is pushed to one end. This gives some quiet popping sounds like the foam might be expanding a little but no visible expansion and it still doesn't suck in any more air when the valves are opened once again, or allow us to blow any more air after we do this so we're making no progress.

Anything else we can try? Or is it faulty?

Thanks

We only have the Aldi 5cm SIM's but they still need topping up after we open them, they only ever inflate to about 1/2 or 3/4 capacity.

To get them fully inflated we top them up by blowing into the valves, there is a knack to this, as you say the air will come back out so what I do is only open the valve so it is only just open to allow air in, then blow into the SIM, then when inflated fully I push down on the valve with my tongue and quickly tighten the valve. The key is to get the valve shut before too much air comes out, it also helps to overinflate them slightly so this compensates for any air coming out before you get the valve shut.

Right, mystery solved.

I tried what you suggested and even after leaving it for a while the air came shooting out with great force when I opened the valve again. I started suspecting it wasn't actually a 10cm SIM but there is nothing written on them to say what they should be. I looked at the Outwell site for clues and saw the weights.

Thick one weighs 2.7kg as expected, non-inflating one weighs 1.7kg.

It's a 5cm SIM in a 10cm bag

Thanks for your help, another trip to Go Outdoors it is...

Who would have thought of weighing it? I wonder how many other campers are puffing and panting trying to blow up a 5cm SIM into a 10cm one?

I bet some cheeky **** has switched them in the shop and then paid for a 5cm one, but got a 10cm.

When I worked in retail, this happened all the time. Go outdoors never have enough staff wandering around the shop.

The funny thing is Go only sell the 10cm. Must have been a cheeky someone at Outwell.

With a 60min round trip to return it I'm going to look a little eccentric and take my kitchen scales when I exchange it though
