Hi! We have just bought our first tent after much reading and researching. Now trying to kit us out. We are definitely going for an airbed due to various health issues but wondering if anyone can advise on bedding? Sleeping bags or blankets? Any advice appreciated. We will only be going for long weekends if that makes any difference.

Hi and welcome. I would go for sleeping bags, I've had experienced waking up with my backside hanging outside the blankets and it takes ages to get warm again.

I got wonderful sleeping bags from Decathlon for £7 in their sale. I would go for a combination of both. I do. I bring the sleeping bag to keep draughts out around my feet, and extra blankets to load on top, or take off as necessary.

In order to stay warm you need to consider insulation between you and the ground. Airbed won't offer any, so you'll need something else as well beneath you. Maybe a foam roll mat.

In an emergency a big lump of cardboard under your airbed can replace a foam mat. Free from a local shop. This will make the world of difference to how warm your airbed is.

recently recommended in another thread - the Outwell Cameo. its a 5cm SIM with a duvet that clips around the sides so you can't roll off. its really snug and packs up all together in a storage sack thing. its great.

I camp from early March to early November and I only use a 5cm double SIM covered with a jersey cotton fitted sheet and a 4.5 tog duvet

I have recently gone from airbed to camp bed...however when we used to take an airbed we had a fited sheet, duvet then on top another duvet and then a fleece blanket...was nice and toasty :)

We use insulating XXL picnic blankets with aluminium backing on top of our airbeds. And warm sleeping bags.
Earlier we used mattress protectors and fitted sheets but they felt very cold.

You can buy fleece sleeping bags that go inside your cotton sleeping bags they even zip together to make a double they are really warm
