Hi i have an electric pitch booked for our holiday, our first family camping holiday, is it safe to use a slow cooker in my tent, leaving it on whilst we are out in the day?

I believe they only use minuscule amounts of leccy especially compared to a microwave so I wouldn't hesitate to use one. If you leave it on at home I'm sure it would be safe to leave it in a tent ..... but I would plonk it in the middle of a safe space away from the sides of the tent and anything else (just to be on the safe side) .... and then feel sorry for all the people around having the aroma of lamb casserole floating around all day making them salivate.

Thanks for your reply, i use mine loads at home and is a cheap way to cook for the family, especially when you get home from a long day and cannot be bothered to cook!

If i can fit it in my car with everything else then i will take it.

I have purchased a "camping" slow cooker from tesco for around £9 rather than the large "home" slow cooker. It takes up little space and I just fill it with t towels so it can earn its keep as storage in the car.

I would think the only danger would be somebody attracted by the aroma(as above) and nicking your meal before you come back!

I tried it for the first time, lamb caserole on low for 8 hours popped out for the rest of the day came back crusty bread wine open easy.

Might go for a pulled pork recipe save on the BBQ been fired up on my return.

Yes we have used one for many years in the tent, brilliant bit of kit. Would agree keep away from sides of tent we had ours on a hardtop cupboard with a large floor tile underneath to protect the cupboard, never had a problem but had plenty of lovely grub. We still use it in the caravan, I think ours came from Aldi.

Nice to read these replies. I've often thought of a slow cooker to use in the tent but am very wary of leaving it in case something happens. We take a lot (A LOT!) of stuff including TV etc (more glamping than camping) as we have a very large tent, but these comments have maybe changed my mind to take it and feel safe. A lovely stew or spaggi bol to come home to sounds devine.

I have put a whole chicken in the slow cooker. No water. Come back to a lovely cooked chicken with delicious stock to make the gravy.
