I've only come across an Origo alcohol (meths) cooking system once on a boat I was delivering to Ibiza.
If this is the type I strongly suggest you try one in an enclosed space before buying.
Having delivered yachts all over and never been seasick before the smell of this stove both filling it on deck and using it below was horrible and brought on seasickness in the whole crew of experienced long distance sailors.
We found the smell is tolerable in small quantities and open spaces but when in an enclosed space and added to with cooking smells it can be very nauseating.

That is why I picked up the fuel in France. The alcohol brulee smells sweet and the ethanol doesn't have the stench of meths. Then again, I'm used to meths.

My husband used them on boats a lot and never minded the smell which was how we came to use them I suppose.
We use ours as a tent heater in one particular tent and don't mind the smell one bit (although the tent is constructed like a chimney so good flow of air through it).
The only time I don't like the smell is after we extinguish the flame when it has been on a long time, I don't like it for about 5 minutes.
Shame you are not closer Ewen, you could use ours to see what you think.
We sold one on the well known auction site a few years ago and it almost went for the new cost so there is hope if you happen to dislike it.
I use a trangia so don't have a problem with the fuel or the smell. I do like the idea of keeping the fuel drums in Tupperware boxes for transport.
My OH is a bit sceptical due to cooking times but it doesn't bother me as we can use our single burner multifuel for boiling stuff quickly. It is expensive but will be cheaper to run, especially in France. I also like the build quality and simplicity. Now to find the best price.
