Topic: Best awning and annexe combination?

I have a Swift Corniche 3 berth and want to buy a good annexe and awning combination. Ideally, I don't want to use the interior of the van to sleep in during summer as I can't stand the making up and down of beds from the sofa area.

I've had a Dorema awning and annexe before, but the annexe gathered water and the design wasn't great anyway. It had a funny point in the middle of the ceiling that didn't really sustain any strong winds. What do you think are the best awning and annexes?

Also does anyone have any ideas for screening the entrances to each annexe from the main awning? With a liner, my double airbed doesn't fir at all well.

look at the kampa range, there is one on there called the Kampa Rally Plus. It is a 260 size which is a decent size awning and then the bedroom annexe protrudes from the left. We have only ever had Kampa awnings and we wouldn't go for any other make. Good luck Gary

Thank you. My old one was a Dorema but I think the newer models are a bit better in design. I'll have a look at the three you'be both mentioned. Thank you. I wish they'd make a tent style one with sewn in sleeping pods to the left and right and a clear front. That'd be perfect for me. Is there anything like that on the market?

We have a luner stellar, 2 berth. We bought the ventura marlin awning with a full height annex. Ventura awnings are made under licence to Isabella so they are pretty good but not as expensive. It's a porch awning so we can use it on any van, and won't have to buy a new one if we change the unit and as the stellar is only dinky, it's very nearly full size.

I loved my Eurovent Montreaux with bedroom annex, total cost I think was approx. £1000 for a size 1025 and bought from Jeff Bowen Awnings online. The fabric was more like the skirt that goes along the wheels, steel poles (and plenty of them) false ceiling to give a cosier look and feel. I bought curtains from Argos to fit across where the annex joins the main tent, and extra curtains were converted to fit the windows along with blackout/thermal linings. We had an Intex Queen double height airbed and it felt as though we were in a bungalow it was so cosy. I realise this set up would be difficult while touring but on a seasonal pitch it was ideal as the awning was listed as four season and designed for use in the French Alps in winter (I didn't try it out. It really is a good awning and very reasonably priced.

As has been said you cannot beat Inaca awnings they
are even better than Isabella as they cost less but are made of the same stuff. If you've owned a Dorema or Kampa or any of the other brands you will think they are good but if you own a Inaca then you will realise the difference. Dont take my word for it look on here on post on Inaca and find anyone complaining about one. Even there porch awnings at 4.2 are big enough to use as a full awning for some and you can still fit an annexe to them

That's great. Thank you. I'll certainly be looking into those brands. I may put the caravan on a seasonal pitch but if not it'll certainly be in the same place for six weeks in summer. Just a few questions:
Is the Eurovent really heavy?
How did you hang the curtains in between the awning and the annexe?

I'm getting quite excited now!

If you are looking for quality, durability and style go for the Inaca brand. We have a full size Inaca, the Sun Canopy and Annex with inner tent, had it for years, far better quality than other leading brands in my opinion.

The Eurovent is certainly a little heavier than most others but to me if you're on a seasonal pitch & don't have to worry about towing weight it is well worth it. As for the curtains I used tab top curtains and cut the tabs to attach Velcro and hung from the normal awning poles. Just do the same round the windows, as the annex has poles in just the right position. I would expect you could do this on any awning. I find it really is necessary if you are sleeping in the awning as we did so the bed can be curtained off during the day and the early morning sun kept out for a lie in.

Personally, I have always used an inner even though it sticks out a little into the main awning. I have just returned from a 6 week trip where my daughter had to sleep in the awning. The inner allowed her to keep the insects out of her bedroom and gave her some privacy too. I have an Isabella awning with a Ventura annexe. I use a 3 man inner as we have a queen size Intex airbed which is too wide for the smaller inners.

We had some spectacular storms whilst away but never had the problems with water pooling on the annexe that we used to get with our previous Dorema annexe. We use the annexe on a seasonal pitch too and always use an extra verandah pole across the roof of the annexe to strengthen it so we don't have to worry about it whilst not there to keep an eye on it.
