So since the first time we went camping we have been using a good gas stover which is great but we also have a ehu what we use, as we pay extra to have this we are thinking of going down the electric hob route, we will be keeping the gas stove and all the bit

So my question is what do you use gas or electric hob? And why

If you use a electric hob what make and model is it? And what's your thought on it

Many thanks

I purchased a maxi grill this year which is ideal if you are connected to electric hook up.
We found it really good for cooking a full English breakfast and ideal for Gammon steak and Pineapple etc. plus very easy to clean.

we use a double solid hob I bought from a car boot for £2 over 3 years ago (not sure of make but it has a euro plug) and a halogen oven.

As I use electric at home I really don't notice that it is supposedly slow although when I tried out the single induction hob at home I did notice how fast it heated up (our electric hob at home is halogen). I may start taking this instead of the double hob as rarely need to use both hobs at the same time and we do have a small suitcase stove if needed.

The halogen oven also gets used regularly at home as I often cook for the children before cooking for us adults due to hubbys work schedule and haven't had one last much longer than 1 year so rather than the cook shop hinged lid halogen I normally go for (that also seems to be harder to get new) I have opted for the Andrew James digital hinged lid halogen with 2 year warranty and spare bulb.

We have gas in the MH but have bought an induction hob (Aldi) to use some of the EHU we've paid for. Takes space though and doesn't do everything (grill as we don't have a toaster, for example).

Neither gas or electric, as I use a Coleman Dual (liquid) Fuel 2-burner stove.

I do not like using gas from a large bottle, and gas canisters can become ineffective at low temperatures, even for propane/butane mix ones.

I cannot use an electric stove/hotplate in winter if I were to keep the tent warm with a fan heater, otherwise the EHU will be overloaded and tripped.

Personally, I wouldn't get too hung up with the  "..we've paid for it, so we must use it.."  lark .

We did something similar a few years back(with a MH). Firstly we bought a single hob..later to be replaced by a double s/steel(Swan?)unit.

They worked okay BUT, for us, they  didn't make "camping" any easier.

Ours took far  longer to heat up(and longer to cool down)than the gas.Ours also threw out a lot  of "downwards" heat.(We had to sit them on silicon mats and a thick chopping board ) and if on a low ampage (possibly "iffy?) supply we'd be forever "juggling" with which appliances to have switched on at any one time, so as to avoid tripping the supply (not always easy to reset on some sites)

So generally, for us, they could be a bit of a faff and were just more tat to have to pack/unpack/store/lug about.

(If you really feel that you want to make use of the ehu, maybe just use it for a kettle and maybe a toaster?...)

Keep things simple(ish!) ..

I have gas and electric hobs - 2 suitcase stoves, a double burner, a double burner with grill and the low wattage Quest griddle and hob.
Obviously I don't take them all on every trip!

I take whichever one best suits the trip away and the number of people camping/cooking for.

I have both Gas & electric.
If I'm on ehu site I use the electric stove, if not then the gas.
The gas cooks much faster - better heat but it's not very good at simmering.
The electric takes ages to cook, but it's good at keeping things warm till your ready to eat!.
I need a 1 ring gas & 1 ring electric really lol

I like the single induction hob I got only draw back is needing induction aka steel or iron bottomed pans / kettle

Its not affected by the wind we find it cooks most stuff on about 1200w and boils a pint of water in thr kettle on 2kw in about 2 mins.

It cools down almost instantly so is little fingers safe compared to a gas or ceramic ring

Just bear in mind that if you go abroad you may not be able to run an electric hob on some camp sites. Some sites only provide 6 amp which would not be enough for a 2kw hob

Svea 123 petrol stove. Utterly reliable. Mine is 40 years old and you can still buy them new. Costs pennies to run.
