I have read loads and loads of reviews and I'm still undecided and more confused than when I started.

I can't decide between a double camp bed like the Outwell posadas plus a SIM or 2 singles or a padded fishing/camp bed like the Cyprinus wide boy type ones.

We have only used blow up mattresses before and find they are not wide enough for 2 adults, they deflate, a fidgeting partner drives the other one mad, you struggle to put your socks on and we are freezing cold.

The lack of sleep is what really ruins camping for me. I need space and comfort. I can't even sleep well in a normal size double bed when staying over night at parents/in laws/hotels.

Is there anyone out there who has tried both types and prefers one over the other or can recommend different brands that aren't so expensive?

Oh also, husband has a bad back and I haven't measured the tent yet :)

I have not used a fishing bed, therefore, I cannot comment about them except their pack size is not small.

I have never considered a double camp bed, as I camp on my own with the dog, and he has his own bed.

IMHO, if one is a light sleeper, then it is not a good idea to have a double camp bed, and opt for two singles instead.

Single camp beds for us, having ditched the air beds. I like my personal space!!
This year we also have 10cm SIMs to use too, after fellow campers recommended this combo.
Having said that, I have always slept very well on the camp bed with my Raskelf Duvalay.

No experience of sleeping on a fishing bed - laid on one in the shop and it was comfortable but the pack size was too big.

I have the camp bed and 10 SIM combo and it is very comfortable. Only I have invested in this I would prefer the Fishing Beds. They are even more bulky in packsize though so be aware of the space in your car.

As a carper my fishing bed is very comfortable but for the price you paid I'd expect them to be, yet as already expressed they aren't the smallest of items and I certainly couldn't afford one each for the whole family so a cheaper camp bed is used when we all go away

We do however use these sleeping bags, again not the smallest but are super super warm and have the added extras of attaching to the bed so it never moves, plus unzips on both sides which helps in smaller pods when you've got 2 beds squeezed in

We've just invested in the double Outwell Posadas, slept on it in the living room last night and woke up with a sore back! Going to try again tonight with a 5 cm SIM on top!

One thing I will say though is that due to the bar down the middle and each side of the bed it makes spreading out in the night virtually impossible.

If you are a squirmer, like to curl into a ball or spread out in the night you might be better off on 10cm SIMs.

Thank you everybody. Your comments are all really appreciated. I bought 2 single 80cm wide camp beds and 10cm SIMs. Haven't tried them yet and kids will have to put up with the blow up mattresses for now. Will let you know how we get on.

May well go down the fishing bed route.

We bought 2 single posadas and top them with a double 10 cm sim. Very comfy and covers the centre bars.

Tried the Posadas again last night with a vango Adventure DLX 5cm double SIM on top. What a difference, comfy and a good nights sleep with no aches or pains this morning!

After endless air beds which even the expensive aero-bed went down in the night
I gave up and bought a fishing bed.
On top of this already comfy bed,I put my sim and then sleeping bag.

This combo is more comfy than my bed at home and I get the best sleep ever in it.
