Hi all
Hoping for some insight on our dilemma. Well we had a ready bed bought from Argos a few years ago and decided to camp with but my golly, did I get cold. Even though with tons of bottom insulation I still felt the cold and of course the air escaped. Myself and DH sleeps together on the double. Well the bed has finally had it and now we are considering getting a colemans comfot double air bed from millets with an outwell double sim or a cheaper sim to put on top of the air mattress. Now I m wondering will this be possible. Having a Bora we are a bit short on space. Our 6year old sleeps on a ready made bed but has out grown it and will also be getting her either a sim or air mattress not sure yet.
Any advice is very much appreciated. Just thought I should also mention DH had back surgery last Nov and he really needs to be comfy bearing in mind he is also 20stone, I m 8stone so that why we thought the colemans comfort double would do.

no need to have them both! just get a foam type mat to put under which ever you decide, and get decent sleeping bags for all of you, kids are better off with a sim

oh just read that last bit, perhaps singles would be better? with the difference in weight of you both if he moves its going to be like sleeping on the sea!

The Coleman comfort has 2 sections so you don't get as much roll if there is a difference in weights. I'm a larger lady and hubby is smaller than me, plus I tent to wriggle about in bed, he says he hardly feels any movement.

If you're worried about the cold, stick a foil blanket and and an additional blanket under the airbed, then out a thick sheet over the top. If you're not using a sleeping bag and just a quilt, consider something like a mattress topper or thick blanket.

Check the size of your bedroom pods as to whether 2 singles would fit in if you decide to go down that route.

We used our Coleman with a 5cm SIM underneath last May. It was vcold at night but we were cosy and no roll together. We put it in a double sleeping bag liner as a sheet.

I just got a couple of low camp beds from Halfords for £8 each and then popped our sims on top, very comfy. I'm actually looking forward to sleeping in the tent now. Children don't need as much comfort as U.S. So they will sleep on sims when they out grow their ready beds.

Thanx everybody.
Lots to think about.We have a Gelert Atlantis 5man with a good amount of space to move about. Hubby just ordered a euro hike flocked single for our 6 year old but I'm considering getting her a sim now,after reading ure guys feedback. As for us I like the idea of the sim too and a Colemans but we are going to camping world to feel a few sums before deciding. Thanx again.

Children don't need sims. Ours are fine with roll mat (the foam kind).

We used to use them but he has a bad back and my back went 4 days after we came back from camping 2 or 3 years ago. I suggested an airbed (was looking at aerobeds) or a camp bed but a Coleman double with the 2 parts arrived in the post.

Works for us. He has his side squashy, I like it a bit more firm. The only problem we have is getting out of bed in a hurry (children calling /being ill).

Like Eskymew we use single camp beds with sim on top and a decent sleeping bag. I find this really comfortable and actually sleep better than at home in bed. Made the mistake of telling hubby this so he suggested I sleep in the tent when we're at home!

Over the last few years ( & we're not getting any younger ,wrong side of 50) we've gone from queen inflatable with duvet, to camp bed & good sleeping bags ( snugpak 12), from there to camp bed + thermarest sim + snugpak & now just on snugpak & 50mm thermarest sim.

warm , comfy & all in a small package. Not cheap at £180 p/p but should last us years.

The cheap tat was much better quality when i was young.
