Hi again..

You'll be spending money and time on it, so as it's approximately 35 years old, I'd be looking at replacing the suspension units anyway(.. irrespective of whether or not you wanted to uprate it)..and I'd also be checking/replacing the hub bearings...

 eg   http://www.indespension.co.uk/212-units-complete-with-hubs

It's probably only going to get "done-up" the once...

I had the bearings checked and re-greased by the guy that services my car a few weeks back - he said they were fine, and it's done 700 miles since then so I guess he was right. I genuinely think it's been used for a handful of camping trips and lived most of it's life in a garage. The 30 year old tyres on it hadn't even started to crack they've had so little UV light. There is no marking to the floor of it or the sides all pointing to it being used for a a few camping trips (I know the couple used it for camping too as they told me as much - and offered me all sorts of other camping gear they were selling!)

Yes...But don't forget, it's not just about the amount of "use" it may or may not have had, trailer suspension units are only a rubber(or sorts?), and little used or not, at 35 years old , they're still knocking-on a bit....and I don't know how/if anyone would be able  to check if they were likely to let go or not?..

If it was a cheapie trailer you were running into the ground and just using occasionally for trips to the tip etc, then  maybe fair enough....but you're looking to extend it and are already  questioning it's gross weight capacity, so that for me would swing it in favour of new, possibly *uprated units...

(*or at least units that are of a "known" rating).

I had the same issue with getting it in and out of the garden I was going to put up a new back fence with a 6' gate for ease of use however I am off camping for 2 weeks next week so had to improvisation on the cheap.     Bought 3 hinges from wilko and a locking latch. Cut right down the fence and fitted some sliding bolts.

Needed 55" to get it out.   it only has to work a few times and survive a few weeks till I rip out the whole thing.

The logic of my formula tells me your stupid because you prefer hotels.
