Hi, We are looking to buy a trailer - a Brenderup with a lockable hardtop - to keep all of our camping gear in it all year round - it will be stored in our garage. Does anyone else do this & do the sleeping bags & tent keep well or will it go mouldy at all? Thanks
All depends on the garage type, it it remains warm and dry all through winter, then all will be fine.
But most garages suffer from condensation during the winter months, we have 9 of the "Really Useful 42 Bxs" for all the odds and sods, which remain in the Trailer in the garage with no ill effect.
All the fabric/ canvas stuff which is packed in 6 Gelert 60 and 100lt Cargo bags, goes into a nice warm and dry place for the 11 months and 2 weeks that it is not required.
Main Tent (Issabella Awning Bag Small)
Kitchen Tent
ZiG for main Tent
Rubber Ground Sheets
AeroTex Breathable Groundsheet
Tarps (footprints)
Bedding
Towels
The above would probably be ok in the Trailer, but better safe than sorry is my take.
In theory sleeping bags should not be stored fully packed.
They should be opened out or loosely packed to allow the filling to expand to its near natural state, otherwise it will not expand fully when in use and the insulation will be reduced.
Just watch the weight, if your load is heavy you should really put it up on axle stands. Alot of weight on the tyres for long periods of time is not ideal.
Having only had our trailer since the spring I have kept the tent and other bulky items in it whilst parked in the garage. Come the autumn when the season ends I intend to move the tent indoors due to the already mentioned potential problems like condensation and weight on the trailer tyres.
I think it would probably OK to leave the tent in the trailer through the winter (bar lessening the tyre life) but since the tent was quite a large investment to us I'll not chance it.
No reported issues with my duvets and SIM stored in the trailer in the garage.
If the tent is not dry by the time I pack up, it goes into the car instead so that it can be spread out on top of the trailer to dry when I get home.

No issues here, although our tailer is left open so that air can circulate and we don't have an issue with condensation in the garage.
Husband moves the trailer about every so often to relieve the pressure on the tyres, this is by virtue of him being an untidy sod, so when he needs to get to something it's a bit like one of those slidy puzzle games from childhood.
Bedding is stored in the house as we use our own home duvet rather than a separate camping set. It is an older one and if damaged could be replaced. The same for sheets and pillows for us all.
The earlier tent was polyester and stayed in the trailer. It was there for 4 winters with no issue.
My current Cabanon is now at work in a cosy warm place till I need it again next summer.
All the other gear, stoves, fridge tables, chairs, etc remain in the trailer to no harm.
This year I will be making props to take the weight off the axle, bearings and tyres.
Have no fear.
