IMHO, a big NO!
The heating element underneath is designed to heat the entire plate, and not localised areas as in electric stoves.
Therefore, trying to heat a pan on it will take a very long time, as a lot of the heat will be wasted.
Besides, IMHO, prolong heating of the large hotplate will result in buckling.
