I have always been very particular at folding up our awning. Must admit never had any trouble getting it back in the bag.
We lay it out flat and fold each end into the middle ,then fold that in half, then fold that in half the other way and there may be another fold too, can't remember.
All the panels are removed before folding. The curtains are always taken down and folded flat too.
We always make sure its completely dry including the mud flaps. The front panels are removed and folded separately. The awning is then folded over length ways till its just slightly narrower than the bag. We then fold it length ways back on its self till its not quite as long as the bag. All of the awning parts is put back into the original bag. We never have any problem getting it back in the bag.
There is a great tutorial video on youtube by Isabella, shows how to erect the awning and take it down and pack the proper way and single handed to boot! I can highly recommend it.

Our last awning was a bit of a 'mare' folding and folding and coming up with the wrong size to squeeze in the bag. However, we then went on line and bought a large bag (flat square with zip and handles) which is bigger than the awning and it was so brilliant, and no problems after that. I think it was from Bags and Covers Direct, or Bags 4 everything? About £30 but well worth it if you use it a lot. We now have Vango Air awning and fortunately it seems to roll up and go back in its bag easily.
