Over the past two years we have begun to go to more rallies with our DA of the CCC, due to the fact our kids no longer come with us, hence no need for electric hookup.
Can anyone tell us how we can run our TV off our battery? What do we need in order to do this. It would not be used very often, but sometimes it would be nice to watch a DVD as we don't get many opportunities to do this at home.
Our older TV had an external mains power supply which actually produced 12volt DC at the little plug end, ideal then to by-pass it and just connect it to a battery supply. The newer one however does not, it is all done within the TV so would need an inverter (converts 12v DC to mains but is pretty inefficient).
You may already have such a unit, if not I think I would try and buy a cheapish second-hand TV that will run on 12 volts, it would also be as cheap as buying an inverter.

------------- Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day,
Teach a man to fish and you can get rid of him for a whole weekend.
We went through the process last year of running our TV from a 12 volt supply.
A few things need to be considered.
1. Making sure the TV has a 12 volt ability.(A lot of them are 240 volts only,it will say on the panel on the back wether it can run on 12 volts.)
2. Ensuring that you have a dedicated 12 volt supply to the TV. This will also enable you to ensure you have the correct amp rating going to the TV. Changeable amp transformers are readily available from Maplins. (Other supermarkets are available!!)
If you try to connect the TV directly to your battery supply there is every possibility you could fry the circuit board on the TV.
3. Ensuring you have a way to charge your battery as the TV can quickly drain it. (We went for a portable solar panel)
4. If the TV has built in freeview it does away with the need for a free sat or free view box (both need a 240 volt supply) and can be run with a decent aerial direct to the TV!
PHEW!!!!!
I hope that even the smallest piece or any of the information is of help.
