All my family have been farmers and /or butchers for generations. We don't support our own economy in this country. Our supermarkets can sell foriegn imports cheaper than we can produce it. I had to scour my local Sainsbury's for a piece of British Steak the other day. They had loads from Brazil! I ended up with organic which cost more but at least I am sure of the quality and standards our animals have to be housed in in this country. My husband farms 200 dairy cows and calves and at the moment we're getting paid around 19p for a litre of milk, how much do you pay for a pint of the skimmed off stuff you get in the supermarket (even full fat milk has the cream off it first.) I know we can't afford to get the best in everything but I think we should all try to do our best to support this country's industries, whats left of them.
