Help please! I have searched and read until I am cross eyed but any info appropriate to my question is either out of date or not meeting my point
We are 2 older campers, well experienced. Not quite ready to take plunge for caravan or camper van till we retire due to cost etc
Up till now we have managed perfect with double blow up air bed. Cold not in question as I am used to routine of space blanket under bed, fleece under sleeping bag etc and we are always warm
But this last season my back hasn't been happy. Our newer air bed is no where near the quality of our old one and it deflated daily needing a blow up every evening but we still rolled into middle during night.
We want to keep our double sleeping bag arrangement. So the folding leg camp beds aren't ideal due to the centre pole. Any idea of a decent flat but comfy solution for a double sleeping bag bed for pre retirement couple? 😊

We have similar issues as my wife has spine and hip problems. We bought an Aerobed Double Comfort Classic Raised bed and have been testing it at home. Does what we want but beds are like shoes - you have to pick well as you are generally in one or the other for life as me old mum says. It comes with it's own pump, a small unit which stays on the bed to allow for any changes you want to make and so far it has not deflated. 3 minutes to inflate and the same for deflation using the "whoosh valve" (their name but that's exactly what it does) We have it very firm. As it's raised, it is almost like getting out of the standard bed at home, swing legs out and stand up - no crawling on hands and knees out of a low airbed. It's 137W 188L and 51H (cm.) Comes with a carry-bag.
Argos are flogging similar Aerobeds for £139.99 or £177.99 but SlumberSlumber are offering them for less - £72.99 so that's where we bought it on-line. I don't know what the differences are as they have different type names. Since we got it and liked it so much we ordered a single raised bed for our daughter's use as she demanded one after trying the double and that one was £62.99. This type may not suit everyone as beds are a personal item and tastes and requirements vary. (I have no connection with the product or sales outlet and am speaking as I find as a customer.)

Hi I am a mature (50s) camper with some back and hip problems. I used to have an Aerobed but even pumped up to the firmest, it did not quite deliver on lumbar support.

So we bought a Vango Comfort 10cm thick double self inflating mat, last year, and after using it for two seasons I must say that we are very pleased indeed. It it a bit bulky when packed, and not something that you could carry very far, but the firmness is much more controllable, and we have had a great night's sleep every time. Of course it is on the floor and that may not suit you in terms of height, but like you have said, the ridge down the middle of a raised double campbed is a bit off putting.

A lot of campers on here have the double Outwell Posadas bed, myself included. Top it with a good SIM (self inflating mattress) and Bob's your uncle!
The raised Posadas means no bending down and the SIM (you will need 7.5 - 10) does provide good support. We are also "older" campers and with this arrangement have a good nights sleep. It is, in fact, as comfortable as the bed at home.
I am not an expert on SIMS, but there are many previous links on here giving good advice (find them in the search button above).
Another advantage of a raised bed is that it's raised off the ground, so warmer and it gives extra storage space underneath.

Sorry, I forgot to mention - with a good SIM you can hardly feel the bar in the middle if at all.

We've used an Intex Queen size double height bed for years (now on our second). The first lasted 4 seasons in the awning of our caravan. We inflated it in April and deflated in October. When inflating at the beginning of the season it would deflate slightly so would need a short blast a couple of times before reaching the firmest setting, after that maybe only once a month. I too have hip and back problems with 5 fused vertebrae as well as arthritis and find this bed is ideal. No roll together and we have a combined weight of over 30 stone and also a dog who liked it so much he slept between us. I now have a static so don't use the airbed but at the moment we are using it at home as we are awaiting a new bed. We have been using a water bed which was great before the back problems got worse and as it needed a good while for emptying we are using the air bed and it is great, I'm getting the best sleep at home that I've had for ages.
The best thing is Aldi have them on offer on Thursday for £39.99 and in my opinion worth every penny.

We have a 10cm double sim which is actually two sims joined in the middle and it pretty much eliminates the bar down the middle.
