If the price of these fridges are too expensive try a coolbox.
There are 2 main types...
. Picnic variety will keep cold with ice blocks for several hours.
. Camping variety which have more insulation in the walls & cost more.
We have been on a weeks holiday with both, at different times. We are a family of 5.
We had the squashy sided 24L picnic one and 3 or 4 ice blocks and used on-site re-frezing of our blocks every day.
We now have Coleman Extreme coolbox. It is bigger and heavier. We use blocks or loose ice (from supermarkets). Checked every day, more ice every 1.5/2 days, depending no how hot it is and how much 'new' stuff is going in it.
Brilliant thanks Frazzle,I think having spent hours looking at what we can get, we're going to go with a Thermoelectric, as even if we get a fridge eventually we'll still be able to use it :-)
Probably going to get a fridge next year, once we've got all the rest of the gear this year :-)
I have in the past used an inverter when we used to camp in a tent on ehu of course we have a Mobicool one. We have since moved up to a caravan and I still use it from the external electric point using the inverter in the awning and I have had it running for ten days non stop with no problem. It is one of the best things that I ever bought for camping and I have had it for a good few years now I paid something like £34 at the time. Wouldn't be without it highly recommended
We bought one from Lidl about 5 years ago and it is brilliant. Honestly we cannot fault it and it has had so much use. The longest we ever ran it for was 4 weeks continuously, we used to swop it from the caravan to the car when travelling. It is dual voltage with both leads supplied. I think we paid 29.99 at the time although I think they're more expensive now. And of course being Lidl you need to look out for them coming in and pounce. They may get them in for easter..

Hi All,
1st ever post and of course, slightly off topic!
I have been following this thread and all of the input with interest as a new cooler was going to be one of this years investments. Have been using a picnic cooler to date, using campsite freezers and swapping icepacks twice daily it's time to upgrade!
I think after reading all the replies and doing a fair bit of online research. I am going to get an igloo maxcold 70. one third of the price of the fridges/thermocoolers and gauranteed icey drinks. I know it requires managing, topping up and draining but this is small work for an excellent result (mainly in the form of ice cold cider!).
Hacksaw Bob is correct in saying look out for the temperature rating. 18degrees below the ambient is the lowest you really want and every few degrees make a difference in price and how well it works.
