I'm getting ready to collect my new Trigano Silver Caravan...
The dealers in France suggest I fit a gel battery due to the small size of the battery box, ready for my mover which will be fitted in the uk.

The gel one is over double the price...is it worth it? I have no experience in these type of sealed batteries, the only advantage I can immediately see is weight, and the batteries can be fitted any way up.

It also depends on where your battery is fitted. If it is in the van then you should use a gel or agm batteries.   This is because a wet battery there is the possibility of hydrogen being produced and exploding.   Many years ago I saw an exploded battery at work it could have killed someone.

We have had Hymers the battery is under one of the seats. The first one was fitted with a gel battery. The new one has got an agm battery factory fitted. I don't know what the relative performance of a gel or agm battery but I would say the agm is slightly cheaper only 1.5 - 1.75 X more expensive than a standard wet battery.

PS I am not sure there is any advantage in terms of size for comparable output

PPS. The picture you posted I think that they are optima batteries and I think that they are AGM not gel.   They are very expensive and cheaper alternatives are available investigate Banner, Exide, Varta as well respected brands

If you can fit a normal 110a/hr battery in your battery compartment which is ventilated to outside then I wouldn't bother with extra cost of gel battery.

Yes you are right...it's an AGM type battery..
