We have just bought a caravan after having a break of around 10 years.
We've looked around the caravan equipment shops and there's some really obvious stuff we need to get.. Eg water roller, waste water tank, wing mirrors for car, hitch lock, wheel lock, electric hook up, hose, gas bottles.
Has anyone compiled a list of the essentials to make the caravan 'work', we are worried there might be something we don't realise we need!
When we first started camping we had a large tent then moved on to a caravan. Most of the camping stuff we transferred into the van.
We then went away to a very local site for a test pitch. We tried out the awning, water etc. We also made lists of things we would like to have and things we need to have. We have worked our way through those lists.
We also find that in UK we need different things to when we're in France and we swap them in and out of the van.
Just enjoy sorting yourselves out, don't rush and don't think you always have to buy from caravan supplies shops (bowls, cups, washing up bowls, cutlery draws etc) they can be quite expensive and you can find cheaper things which work just as well.
Look at your local ads. Things like waste and water are often for sale. We got both with the wastemaster cover and aquaroll covers on for £40. They looked brand new.
I've downloaded an android app to my phone called caravandroid and it's really good. It's got some good checklists for essential items and also a section where you can put your insurance details which I think is handy to have.
If you have android give it a go. It should help you.
