Hiya,
No ice pack availability and no fuel allowed on a scout camp, so no Generator. No Electric hook up on them either. So just gas hob, and no recharge of phones:( Might see if can find a solar charger for phone or one of them little burners you can hook a phone too.
Thanks all.
Back to drawing board.
3 way fridge running on gas.....
old nokia brick phone will give you about a weeks use on standby unlike the smart phones.....
solar charger for phones waste of time in the uk unless the panel is about the size of a a3 sheet of paper anything under 40w your urinating into the wind ;)
I use an Anker power pack for DofE camps/walks, the small ones (£10) will give one full charge of a smart phone and weigh next to nothing - I use this for a mid-walk re-charge when using several nav apps. The larger one is about £25 and recharge your phone and smaller power pack several times. Trangia for cooking.
If you buy Anker (said to be the best on the market), buy second generation models.

Off Topic..
Can I ask a question of these small USB-socketed chargers?
None of our phones, cameras etc have or are "chargeable" via, a USB socket/plug.
So off-mains charging is done using 12v "cigar lighter" type adapters..
Is it possible to get a female "cigar lighter"-to- Male USB adapter, so we could use the aforementioned chargers, without having to get a new lead for each item ?
Or are they just not compatible?
(We have already got an adapter that works the other way 'round..no idea how we ended up with it though?)
Thanks
The voltages are different. So a simple cable wouldn't work, it would need to step the voltage up. Then it's possible that you would struggle with current draw. It would be better to find a 12v source in my opinion.
Only, I've been faffin' about, threatening to buy or make a standalone power pack/battery box for the last few seasons...but *never actually got 'round to it..
(*which probably shows how little we really need one..?)
..and when these small power units get mentioned, they've tended to muddy the water still further...
At least I can rule them out as an option then.
Thanks

Hi NickH..
No sorry, I was only after an independent, standalone unit that could charge 12v "cigar-lighter" plugged items..
So having now ruled out those slim "smart" chargers, if I do it at all, it'll probably just be a cheap(and possibly nasty?) pre-made "power-pack" or a homemade, possibly car battery based unit.
