Hi Folks,

Just wondering has anyone any ideas or experience in what carpet they use in their tents. I have a Icarus 600 and can’t complain about it and I’m really looking forward to taking it out with the kids again this year. I would like a carpet for the front area this year but looking at the prices vango are looking for their carpets it got me thinking there must be a cheaper but just as good option out there. After all a bit of tarp works just as good for a footprint as the overpriced vango ones do. So just wondering has anyone any tips or ideas i could take on board?

Thanks

You can go for any brand that roughly correlates to the living room size and if its too big you can tuck under - however I think slightly too small is better because you tend to put your stuff round the edges anyway.

The Coleman 2.3x2.3m is a pretty good colour match and is currently £44 on Amazon uk - although it won't be as wide as you may like. You are looking for 2.5 x 3.9m according to the manufacturers website.

Amazon uk

It's just to illustrate the point that any tent carpet will do.

Kampa Croyde Carpet

This one is 2.7 by 3.3. Reduced at the moment. I think you could save some money by looking at tent models that have been discontinued, such as this Kampa Croyde 4.

We bought a carpet for our 600 and we have found it really great on the cold nights and mornings.
Bought it from an eBay retailer at almost half price but it took a lot of searches overtime to find it.
I would consider all the manufacturers not just Vango

Something like this might suit.

I managed to get a cheap Vango Universal carpet that fitted my Sunncamp tent earlier, but we are now getting into the 'season' and camping gear will be top price. I also use PVC backed picnic rugs (google picnic rugs) which come in various sizes and qualities but are more or less the same as tent carpet. You may need more than one for a large area but still cheaper than a dedicated carpet.

Here is another suggestion.

Lidl do an xl picnic rug (not sure of size but one covered the bedroom pod floor), of course this is seasonal but it's just a matter of keeping an eye out.

thanks a million for all the replies folks. Always great information from people on this site. Just noticed (im in Ireland)... LIDl are doing a deal on tarp this weekend, I think its 4m x 3m but its only €8.99. very handy as a tent footprint, I think im going to pick on up myself.

If you use a tarp as a footprint make sure none of it is sticking out beyond the edge of the tent or water will drip down on it and run back underneath the tent making a lake between the tarp and the groundsheet...not good.

I think as some folks have suggested is to look for carpets for tents that are discontinued.
There are usually lots on Ebay, it can take a bit of time but worth it for the potential saving.

If you are unsure about size just google the tent that the carpet is for.

I'm in Northern Ireland which is a different Lidl website again from Lidl UK and we're getting that tarp in from the 7th April, so a week behind you. It's £7.99. I think the cordless 12v work light would be a good buy too

My local Poundstretcher had these tarpaulins in stock recently, 6' x 8' for £2.99
