So after reading around I have decided I don't want to risk using our old air bed due to outgassing and pthalate risks. I can only seem to find tpu or PVC free
double airbeds on USA sites for £100 +. Does anyone know of anything suitable available in the UK for less than £100 please. We just don't have the space for mats or camp beds in the car.

Thanks it could be an option would prefer PVC free though. I totally don't understand that in the USA there is an awareness of tpu air beds but it seems European ma ufacturers arn't rising to the challenge of the PVC dangers.
I would consider camping bed thaat fold really small, the really low camp beds I have found impossible to assemble.

Like everything reasonable precautions can limit your exposure, just think of all the other PVC items you might have ?

Out-gassing is a process whereby the chemicals used in the production of PVC are released over time (i.e the smell of a new car, the VOC's), if you have an old PVC air bed it's likely all out of gas... (i.e its fully out-gassed), new airbeds should be aired ideally for a month or more to allow the out-gassing to occur.

Don't sleep directly onto the PVC surface, a fitted sheet or matress topper, then you in your sleeping bag, this detaches you from the surface.

Now lets look at Polyester, whilst not on the same scale as PVC constantly releases toxins during its lifetime, so make sure those sheets and sleeping bags are 100% cotton.

Its all about risk, and the value you place on it.

Yes I have read both sides of the argument and the toxicity of polyester already thanks. I have found out that Outwell do two airbeds the flow and the reel which are tpu and polyester based also intex do one too, invade anyone else is also looking for a PVC Free solution.
