Hi - I've seen all the views on caravan covers regarding dagae to paintwork etc - but wondering if there are any views on whether they help keep water out? We have a fairly old van, but pretty sold with little damp. However, over winter the arial has developed a very small leak, which seems to have let water in - it has run once inside the van, making the front left corner (under the seats) damp and soft. Obviously I'll reseal the arial, but do covers (even if just a roof cover) help keep water out, or do they just cause trouble by the wind ripping at fittings like the arial and making it worse?

Hi there I was just thinking same , we are newbys and got a full cover but not used it ( yet ) do they trap in moisture or do they keep van clean and ready to use ,as I suppose it's start of season now so will be wondering the same at the end of the year , cover or not !!!!

Don`t know about the cheapo ones, but the more expensive ones do keep the van dry and clean and are breathable so any moisture isn`t trapped.

I have one in the garage, used it for one year and the van emerged in spring without the algae, bird muck and black streaks that normally take ages to clean off.

Having said that, I only used it the once because despite the fleecy internal layer it did slightly `scuff` the previously pristine windows, this took ages to buff out.

At the end of the day, if the caravan leaks it needs fixing. A cover will keep the water out, but unless you are going to tow it with a cover in place(!), or leave it on when on site (a tent?), the caravan will still leak and ultimately fall to bits.

They are not waterproof... Water repellant or resistant but whats underneath still gets wet.

A quick sprinkle with a watercan maybe repelled but a downpour will wet it.
