Need to get a new gas lighter for the caravan hob. Just wondering whether to go with cheap and won't last or a better one that you can actually refill! Any recommendations? TIA

Got my "Light My Fire" Swedish Firesteel around 20 years ago and it is still going strong, they are a bit Ray Mears, but who cares when you need a light.

Lights our CampinGaz Chef cooker no problem.

We also use the cheapy plastic gas filled lighters, but as you mention, they often fail, and can't always be re-filled.

I use an optimus clicky for my trangia. It is a peizo sparker but you can dip it in liquid fuel and it gives a match effect.
For gas and petrol I have a brass flint sparked. Basically a flint and wheel in a brass tube. Lights anything.

The disposable type from discount shops for about £1 each do the job. I find one will last the season at least.

I've got a re-filable one I picked up from Aldi, it's got a flexible neck and is windproof, they are great for outside use. Keep your eye on the special buys as I haven't seen them this year yet.

We've never had much success using the flameless, "striker" types to light our stove (..not even when trying the ones I've used at work, for igniting the oxy acetylene).

We've used the same one of these for a few years now

..it wouldn't have been very expensive, 3-4 quid? tops.

Be careful with the cheapo ones. My wife has a fad for scented candles, the type in small glass jars, and uses matches to light them and keeps burning her fingers. I treated her to a cheapo gas lighter but she burned off her eyebrows the first time she tried it and there was no flame adjuster on it. She's now back to burning her fingers as she thinks that is less painful
