Over the last couple of years many sites have banned generators I have had two sites email me when I have booked non electric to remind me they have a no generator policy, I believe some of the shows and group rallies still allow the but normally under strict time periods and in some cases a separate area for those with generators.
the only reason I can see for a genny these days is to run medical equipment that some people need
It would definitely depend on where you were going if you are intending to use a generator. Most sites ban them, and you would need to be well away from others or somewhere that was very noisy anyway. Also you would have to have a very specific type of generator or it could cause problems with the TV or any other sensitive electronic equipment.
My preferred method would be a solar panel, a good big leisure battery, and a 12 volt TV. Although personally I never take a TV with me on holiday as I like to get away from it for a while.
Hi all. Didn't know this was still on the forum. Since posting this question I have answered it myself by trying different things. For the past few years I've done the following. Using a second battery situated under the bench seat, it's connected to a 300w inverter which I've wired into an on/off switch on the outside of the seat. Saves lifting the seat up to switch it on. The inverter is also wired into a double socket also on the outside of the seat which I plug the TV into and any usb devises. My TV is 240v and works perfectly using this system. I've changed my caravan since posting the original question and wired it up the same. The most I need it for is 5 days when off grid and it lasts no problems. The battery is wired into a battery gauge also on the outside of the seat so if it does go low I have a portable Solar panel to top it up if needed.
