We did once cook a pizza on a grill raised tray (a raised rack like an oven shelf). It was okay, but not good. Quite frankly we need 2 pizzas for 5 of us so this was not a good plan.
We do pizzas quite often, I make smallish indivdual ones as we like different toppings. The kids love making them. They love getting involved in cooking on the Cobb but they are 13 & 16 and both Scouts. Yes it takes time to do, but whilst waiting for the pizzas to cook they nibble on salad & garlic bread.
Excellent info and advice everyone, thank you - lasagne and garlic bread, while camping! This is so exciting...
Anyhoo, it's all arrived and I'm waiting for the weekend to try it out. Meanwhile, I've got it all neatly packed away in the bag - except for the dome holder. Where/how on earth does that get packed? I can't see a way?
------------- Karsten 350 - we’ve arrived.
Farewell, Carl Denig Electra, you served us well for over a decade.

74Giggles, we cook on ours when camping... so 1 week at Whitsun, 1 or 2 weeks in the summer and hopefully this year a weekend.
What size / recipe do you use? I do have 1 to use at home but it cooks in an oven.
We are us and 4, 8 & 10 year olds.
I make a 500g bread recipe up or make a random scone base up. Garlic bread slices wrapped in foil in the moat takes about 10 minutes, this gives the hungry ones something to munch on whilst their pizzas cook and have salady bits as well. I want to try the Chicago Town mini deep dish pizzas, got them in the freezer but not got round to it yet. A friend uses the tall wire rack out of her microwave for double deck cooking. I've ordered on so I can try it out.
Experiment at home in the garden before you go.
My kids are older, 13 & 16. We use our Cobb at home and whilst camping. We've had ours a year, but have had help &advice from a friend who has had one for 2 years. We're away most weekends from June to mid September and later now we've got the camper, plus a few earlier camps.
Just buy the basic, I bought ours a few years ago from Lakeland, they had them on offer, I only received an email from them a couple of weeks ago and they were discounting them. The Cobb is the best IMO cooks brilliantly with no flare-ups and no burnt sausages !!
